Jackie

I’m spending too much time on trains these days….

Hallo, there!

I’m Jackie

Jackie.

Won’t you come and join me in my buffet car?

I’m Jackie

Jackie..

Come and find me here – it really isn’t far.

I’ve got pies and rolls and pastries

lovely salads for the ladies

sandwiches and bacon butties

chocolate bars and skinny lattes..

I’m Jackie

Jackie.

Won’t you come and join me in my buffet car?

I’m Jackie

Jackie

Come and find me here – it really isn’t far.

If you come and get a drink

the towns will speed by in a wink

it will feel as if the train is moving

faster than you think..

instead of waiting for a third day

outside Didcot Parkway..

Hallo! It’s me again; I’m Jackie

I’m still waiting in the buffet

My hot buns are getting colder

and the salad’s getting older..

so am I.

so am I.

A person can get lonely and a person can get sad

When no one comes to see her  even though the food’s not bad

Do you have to read your paper? Do you have to surf your phone?

Do you really have to leave me here alone?

I’m Jackie

Jackie.

Won’t you come and join me in my buffet car?

I’m Jackie

Jackie

Come and find me here – it really isn’t far.

It might be the beginning of a steamy new affair..

I’m just sitting here and plaiting pasta pieces in my hair..

It’s at least another two hours before we get anywhere..

Won’t you come and join me in my buffet car?

We could have sex behind the counter

while the coffee maker bubbles

and the microwave heats up..

I’m sure I could make room

if I just moved the paper cups..

Nobody would notice because nobody is here

they’re all bloody sitting gazing at their bloody little screens

drinking bloody Costa coffee, eating sandwiches from Pret

sending bloody stupid messages to girls they’ve never met..

I could be dancing on the counter with a knife between my teeth

trampling the coffee spoons and sugar with my feet..

playing my maracas with a lethal urban beat..

and none of you would notice..

No, none of you would notice..

I’m Jackie

Jackie

Won’t you come and join me in my buffet car?

I’m Jackie

Jackie

Come and find me here – it really isn’t far.

      1. Hallo, Chris! I didn’t know you read this! How are you?
Contrary to anything Steggall might suggest, Jackie is a real person who begged us very plaintively several times during our journey to join her.. not quite to the extent I suggest, however!
